Brazil has led the ranking of the largest exporters of beef in the world since 2004, adding the
volume of 1.2 million tonnes foreign exchange and revenue of $ 4.8 billion in 2010. These values
represented a 20% share of international trade, exporting to more than 180 countries.
The territorial extension, climatic conditions, and programs geared to animal health and food
security positioned Brazil as one of the largest producers of beef and with potential to meet the
specific requirements of the diversified market.
Brazilian livestock production is based on grazing animal. Semi-intensive or intensive systems
(feedlots) are used to finish the cattle or when the pastures require feeding supplements. It is
prohibited to use animal protein to feed the cattle in Brazil.
In recent decades the meat packing plants improved technology and invested in employees training, focusing on compliance with
internationally accepted standards. In this sense, the
Brazilian meat packing implemented programs focused on the Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP),
Standard Procedures for Operational Health (PPHO), Sanitary Operating Procedures (OSP) and
Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP).
Also given to the international requirements, Brazil improved the traceability system in
the supply chain throughout the process, from the purchase and slaughter of animals up the
processing, storage and shipment of products.
Brazil managed to reach new markets and meet different people all over the world due to the
improvement of production and technology.
